Monsoon rains kill 234 in Pakistan, Punjab hit hardest as children bear the brunt

Monsoon floods have killed 234 people and wounded 596 others across Pakistan since seasonal rains began. The National Disaster Management Authority reports that children, women, and elderly citizens suffered the most casualties during the ongoing weather crisis. Floodwaters destroyed 826 residential structures while recent storms claimed twelve more lives within a single day. Punjab province experienced the heaviest losses with 135 fatalities and 470 wounded residents recorded by officials.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa recorded 56 deaths and 71 injuries as heavy rains continued battering the region. Five children perished in separate weather-related accidents throughout the Swat area during recent flooding events. Sindh province reported 24 deaths alongside 40 injuries while Balochistan documented 16 fatalities and four wounded civilians. The Pakistan Meteorological Department issued severe weather warnings for multiple regions expecting continued downpours.

Major urban centers face significant flooding threats as authorities monitor conditions in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Gujranwala. Emergency officials have instructed provincial governments and rescue teams to maintain heightened readiness levels during the crisis.
