Mormon church shooter in Grand Blanc gets toasted

A 40-year-old man from Burton drove into a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints facility on Sunday morning, then opened fire on congregants before igniting the building. Police Chief William Renye confirmed officers killed the attacker after arriving at the Grand Blanc location around 10:25 a.m. Ten shooting victims reached area hospitals, with one fatality confirmed, but several others remain in critical condition.

The destroyed church may contain additional victims who remain unaccounted for after the deliberately set blaze consumed the structure. Authorities have not released the gunman's identity or potential motives for the attack. Grand Blanc sits seven miles south of Flint, while Burton lies seven miles north of the targeted religious facility. Officials plan another briefing for 5 p.m.
