Moses Kuria abandons President Ruto's crumbling Kenya government

Moses Kuria walked away from his job as President William Ruto's top money adviser on Tuesday night. The former minister posted his resignation letter on social media after meeting face-to-face with the president. Ruto took the news well and accepted Kuria's decision to leave government service. Kuria had worked for the administration for almost three years across different positions. He thanked the president for trusting him with important roles during his time in office.

Kuria spent 11 months running the trade and industry department before moving to handle public service matters for nine months. He finished his government career as a senior economic adviser, a job he held for the past 10 months since August 2024. The outgoing adviser felt proud of the work he did with Ruto on their economic plan. They had created the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda together during the 2022 election campaign. Kuria believes this program helped Kenya move forward under the current administration.

Another key figure has left Ruto's team as the government enters its third year. High-ranking officials have been changing positions or leaving the administration recently. Kuria plans to focus on his personal business interests after spending years in public service. The president has not named anyone to replace Kuria in the economic adviser role. Government sources expect more announcements about staff changes in the coming weeks.
