MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah Petitions Mahama to Fast-Track Anti-Gay Bill

A lawmaker asked President John Dramani Mahama to fast-track legislation against LGBTQ activities after photos spread online. Vincent Ekow Assafuah represents Old Tafo constituency and sent his request Thursday. The images showed two South African men posing at Independence Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum. Assafuah called their actions offensive to Ghana's values and traditions. He wants the president to treat this matter with extreme urgency.

The parliament member described the incident as harmful to the nation's spiritual well-being. He believes quick action will prevent similar situations from happening again. Assafuah warned that delays might encourage more people to challenge Ghana's cultural beliefs. He asked Mahama to show strong moral leadership during this controversial time. The lawmaker thinks national monuments should not become places for activities that upset most citizens.

Assafuah reminded the president about promises made to religious groups during the campaign. Mahama had told church leaders he would sign anti-LGBTQ legislation after winning the election. The MP pointed out that parliament recently passed the Dumsor Levy under emergency procedures. He argues that protecting Ghana's cultural identity deserves the same urgent treatment. Assafuah believes this issue affects the country's moral foundation more than economic policies.
