Mpuuga New DF Party Set to Shake Up Politics

Mathias Mpuuga started a new political party called the Democratic Front. The former opposition leader left his old party after a fight with other leaders. He wants to bring fresh ideas to Uganda politics before the 2026 elections. Mpuuga served as an opposition member of parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe. His new party offers voters different choices who feel tired of the current options.

The Electoral Commission registered the party on May 6th after changing its name from the Green Partisan Party. Mpuuga had problems with the National Unity Platform, where he worked as deputy president. He disagreed with party leader Robert Kyagulanyi over how to manage the party. The conflicts went on for months before Mpuuga decided to leave. His supporters argue that NUP focused more on addressing internet complaints than on building strong institutions.

The Democratic Front aims to attract voters from urban and rural areas. Mpuuga believes people want something between the ruling NRM party and the opposition NUP. Political experts believe his move could alter the way opposition parties operate. He might recruit members from both the NUP and the Democratic Party, where he began his career. Mpuuga has not said if he will run for president, but his timing suggests he might challenge current leaders.
