Mudavadi Explains Absence During Ruto and Raila Pact Signing

Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi explained why he missed the Friday signing ceremony between President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. His office sent out a message late Friday saying he had four important jobs that kept him busy all day. His schedule started with an early morning Kenya Kwanza meeting at State House, led by President Ruto. During this meeting, lawmakers from the ruling group approved the agreement between Ruto's United Democratic Alliance party and Raila's Orange Democratic Movement.

People noticed Mudavadi wasn't there when Ruto signed the official agreement with Raila at KICC Friday afternoon. The two leaders created a partnership between the ruling party and the main opposition group. Many important politicians from Kenya Kwanza and ODM came to watch the event. After the morning meeting, Mudavadi worked at his office around 10 a.m. before heading to represent President Ruto at two different events, one in Bomet County and another in Kakamega County.

Mudavadi visited Chemaner village in Bomet East where he shared the President's sympathy message to the family of Dr. Aurelia Rono, who serves as Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs. He spoke at the funeral of her father, Mzee David Kiplang'at arap Kirinyet. Later that same day, Mudavadi traveled to Friends' Boys School in Lugusi, Kakamega County. There, he gave the school a bus that President Ruto had promised to honor the late Malava Member of Parliament, Malulu Injendi.

His office made clear that even though Mudavadi couldn't attend the signing, he completely supports bringing Kenyans together. The statement emphasized that Mudavadi strongly believes in national unity and actively promotes the idea of a government that includes many different groups. The new partnership between UDA and ODM happened right after Mudavadi's Amani National Congress party joined with UDA. His busy schedule kept him from attending the ceremony, but he backed the agreement between the president and the opposition leader.
