Bobi Wine's bodyguard appeared at Masaka High Court on Monday, barely able to walk after his arrest more than a week ago. Two plain-clothed officers helped Edward Sebuufu, known as Eddy Mutwe, as he limped toward the court cells. Security forces took him from Kiwango village on April 27, but the charges remain unclear. His boss reported that armed men in military uniform grabbed Mutwe using a Toyota van.
Nobody knew where Mutwe was until General Muhoozi Kainerugaba posted about him online. The army chief shared a picture showing Mutwe half-naked with his beard shaved off. Muhoozi wrote that Mutwe stayed in his basement learning a tribal language. He also said he caught the opposition figure like a grasshopper and threatened further action against the party.
Many people demanded Mutwe's release, especially opposition supporters. Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Mayiga spoke against the detention earlier today. He asked General Muhoozi to hand Mutwe over to the police if he broke any law. Mayiga said police should follow proper legal steps and bring suspects to court within 48 hours.
