Muhoozi wins African defence leadership award

A continental defense award just landed in the hands of Uganda's top military officer at a major leadership summit in Ghana.

The award and ceremony

• Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba received the Special African Leadership Award for Defence and National Security Excellence.
• The 15th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year event ran from 27 to 28 February in Accra.
• Over 400 delegates showed up at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.
• Heads of state, ministers, and business leaders were all in attendance.

Kainerugaba's military resume

• He serves as Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.
• Previous roles spanned commander of special operations and land forces within the UPDF.
• Organizers credited him with boosting counterterrorism capacity.
• Professionalizing elite units and regional security cooperation were also highlighted.

• Dr. Ken Giami founded and chairs the African Leadership Organisation out of London.
• Giami called Kainerugaba a rising and shining star of Africa.
• Two decades of military reforms got cited as justification for the pick.
• The ceremony's theme centered on forging peace and controlling Africa's narrative.
