Multichoice Is Bleeding DStv Fans Fast

Multichoice faces major problems after losing millions of customers. The company lost 2.3 million DStv subscribers during the past year. South Africa lost 614,000 customers and other African countries lost 1.73 million subscribers. Company revenue fell 9 percent to R50.8 billion. Trading profits also declined to R4.0 billion.

DStv subscriber numbers continue falling across all regions and customer types. South African subscribers dropped from 8.551 million to 7.937 million people. African subscribers outside South Africa fell from 12.383 million to 10.655 million customers. Total subscribers across all regions decreased from 20.934 million to 18.592 million users. Premium, mid-market and mass-market customers all cancelled their subscriptions.

Economic problems hurt families and businesses throughout Africa. High unemployment and slow economic growth pressure South African consumers. Load shedding creates additional financial stress for households. Many families cannot afford DStv subscriptions anymore because of rising living costs. Streaming services and free video content attract customers away from traditional television.
