Murang'a Residents Demand Justice After Police Shoot Boniface Kariuki

People from Murang'a demand answers after police shot 22-year-old Boniface Mwangi Kariuki. The young man lies hurt at Kenyatta National Hospital with a bullet wound to his head. Officers fired at him during angry protests about teacher Albert Ojwang who died behind bars. Kariuki was selling face masks on the street to make money for his family. He was not part of the angry crowd when police hurt him.

Neighbor Beatrice Wairimu treats Kariuki like her child since they grew up together. She heard the terrible news and rushed to comfort his mother Susan Njeri who was crying. Wairimu wants harsh punishment for the officers who did this terrible thing. She believes strong action will stop other police from hurting innocent people. The woman says street selling is hard work and Kariuki was just trying to earn honest money.

Former lawmaker Jamleck Kamau blames oversight officials for failing to control bad police officers. He says the Independent Policing Oversight Authority works alongside police instead of investigating them properly. Local leader Grace Nduta warns that bad officers make people lose trust in police. Political figure George Kibuku calls Kariuki a hardworking young man who supports his family. The victim's grandfather Ephantus Kimotho thanks people for visiting but warns protesters to stay safe because some officers want to cause harm.
