Murkomen backs top security over hate talk

Kenya Interior CS Murkomen stood up for top security officials Sunday after they faced criticism for comments about hateful messages toward elected leaders. He said Chief of Defense Forces General Kahariri and National Intelligence Services Director Haji spoke based on real information when they addressed the "Ruto Must Go" slogan. Their comments came during a public lecture about security changes at the National Intelligence Research University.

Kahariri stated that people should keep freedom within certain limits according to the constitution. He stressed that the military has sworn to defend the republic but remains non-political. Many people reacted differently to his statements, with some saying he should stick to security matters. Murkomen agreed with the security chiefs, saying they warned about future dangers to the country.

The CS spoke at a church service celebrating AIC Makueni's eighth anniversary in Meru County. He criticized politicians and social media users for messages that threaten security. He emphasized that countries need order to maintain peace, unlike some neighboring nations. The constitution clearly outlines how to remove elected officials through impeachment or recall, plus ways to arrest those who break laws.

Murkomen asked elected officials and religious leaders to help fight drug abuse and mental health problems among young people. He instructed chiefs to watch closely for illegal alcohol sales in villages. The government will act firmly against those who allow such harmful activities to protect youth from bad influences instead of encouraging rebellion among the next generation.

The CS praised the arrest of 120 gang members called "panga boys" and promised to dismantle criminal groups across the country. He warned those involved that their time running free would end soon. Murkomen also put criminals practicing harmful traditional customs on notice. He referenced cases in Wajir where a teenager died after refusing marriage to an older man and in Nyamira where attackers hurt a woman who refused to participation in her ex-husband's funeral rites.

Murkomen highlighted the importance of Operation Maliza Uhalifu base in Laikipia county, which aims to stop cattle raiders and new crime trends. He also announced plans to implement all officially registered administrative areas. Several leaders attended the church event, including Governor Mutuma, multiple Members of Parliament, and county officials from the region.
