Murkomen tours coastal counties for security check

CS Kipchumba Murkomen plans to visit all six counties in the Coast Region next week. His travels start on April 7 and finish on April 12, 2024, as part of the Jukwaa la Usalama County Tours program. During his stay, he aims to check security across these areas and talk with local chiefs, county safety teams, National Government Administration Officers, and peace groups. This marks his first big national trip since President William Ruto named him Interior Cabinet Secretary after changing his team. The visit shows how the government wants to build peace and help communities work together on safety issues.

Murkomen wants to see how ready these areas are for disasters, especially with more dangers from changing weather patterns. He plans to meet directly with local people to hear what they think about government services. The Cabinet Secretary will also visit security staff who protect both land and sea borders along the coast. Part of his job includes checking how well the Mobile ID Registration services work since President Ruto made ID cards free for everyone. According to his office, these Jukwaa la Usalama meetings help create open talks between officials and regular citizens.

This coastal trip happens just after the police catch several criminals in the region. Security forces arrested nine suspects in Msambweni, Kwale County, during a night raid targeting a dangerous group called Panga Boys. Police and investigators caught these people on April 4, 2025, working together as a team. Coast Regional Commander Ali Nunow said they are processing all suspects for legal action. The gang members had attacked people using machetes last week, forcing police to act quickly.

The government believes this tour shows its promise to make areas safer and serve people better. It wants to ensure that national programs fit each local community's needs. Murkomen will spend time learning about specific problems in coastal areas and finding ways to fix them. He hopes these face-to-face meetings will build trust between the government and citizens. By listening to what people say, his team can change how they handle security and other important services.

His visit comes at an important time when coastal residents worry about crime and need more help from the central government. The Cabinet Secretary brings resources and authority that might solve long-standing problems in these communities. Meeting with different groups allows him to hear many views and create better plans. After gathering all this information, Murkomen can take real steps to improve life for people living along the Kenyan coast. The success of his tour depends on honest feedback and cooperation from everyone involved.
