Museveni shrugs off pleas to free priest tied to Bobi Wine

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni just flexed on the clergy regarding a detained priest. He told Bishop Serverus Jjumba that Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira stays locked up until the holy man snitches on himself and quits backing Robert Kyagulanyi. This conversation happened at Rwakitura right after the victory lap, where the leader insisted the Masaka Diocese staffer remain behind bars for messing with opposition politics.

Detectives slapped money laundering charges on the reverend back in December 2025. The state claims this guy and some accomplices moved 500 million UGX through Centenary Bank between 2023 and 2025 to hide where the cash came from. Early reports from religious officials claimed soldiers kidnapped him, but security forces argue the collar was totally legal.

The head of state mentioned he might reconsider if the suspects come clean and stop causing trouble. He gave props to regular citizens for keeping things chill during the voting season, noting that even National Unity Platform supporters helped avoid a Libya-style meltdown. The church hasn't clapped back at these statements yet.
