Bulawayo musician Mzoe 7 delivered a theatrical production at Bulawayo Theatre on Friday, October 11, that merged music, dance and drama after four weeks of intensive preparation. The performer lost 20 kilograms before the show and coordinated separate rehearsals with a band, dancers and choir before combining all groups.
Mzoe drew inspiration from Nigerian legend Fela Kuti, local artist Sandra Ndebele and continental performers while incorporating costumes, lighting and stage effects. The artist managed rehearsals at two studios simultaneously and handled financial costs for venue booking, transportation and crew coordination throughout the production period.
