NACADA says prevention is the best bet to stop drug abuse before it starts

Kenya's anti-drug agency stressed prevention as the top way to fight substance abuse problems. The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse held events across the country for International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Officials gathered at Embu County to promote early action against addiction. The agency picked a theme about investing early to stop organized crime. Board leader Stephen Mairori spoke about stopping problems before they start.

Mairori said prevention costs less money and works better over time. He explained that teaching young people and helping families creates safer communities. Every dollar spent on prevention saves many lives and resources later needed for treatment. The official said education stops addiction from happening at all. Eastern Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich attended the Embu event.

Rotich praised the agency's community work and awareness campaigns. He noted that drug-related harm has dropped across the eastern region. The commissioner linked the anti-drug efforts to Kenya's economic development plans. Healthy communities help build a strong workforce and reduce crime rates. Prevention efforts support the nation's growth goals.

County coordinators led marches and school programs across all 47 counties. Communities from Mombasa to Turkana heard the same message about early intervention. The agency organized forums for local leaders and residents. Officials reminded everyone that stopping problems early works best. NACADA ran major operations against illegal drugs during May.
