Namcor says locals pile in for energy project talks

Namcor and TotalEnergies say people are attending their meetings despite claims in The Namibian newspaper. The companies challenged a report titled "Little interest in TotalEnergies consultations." They stated that Namibians have shown strong participation at community discussions about the offshore Venus Field energy project.

More than 100 people came to Keetmanshoop to ask questions about protecting the environment. Bethanie saw over 200 residents fill the Community Hall for similar talks. Lüderitz had the largest turnout, with 300 participants staying late to learn about project displays. Nearly 600 Namibians have joined these discussions across different locations.

The companies explained that these meetings help gather public input about possible environmental effects. They promised to study all feedback carefully to develop the Venus Field responsibly. During one session, a young person in Lüderitz asked about local job creation, sparking talks about training opportunities for Namibians. The companies stressed that both local people and environmental concerns remain their top priorities.
