Namugongo Church Backs URA in Tax Smackdown

Uganda's Orthodox Church decided to help the Revenue Authority teach people about taxes. His Eminence Jeronymos Muzeeyi leads the church and calls the education program very important for religious communities. The partnership aims to eliminate confusion about tax laws among church members nationwide. Officials held a workshop at the Comboni Sisters Conference Centre near Namugongo to train religious leaders. Church officials learned practical information about tax benefits and business registration requirements.

Commissioner Abel Kagumire from URA led the training session for dozens of church leaders. He explained how his agency collects money legally and sends it to government accounts. Kagumire informed participants that URA operates in accordance with established laws and works transparently with citizens. The government offers three years of tax exemption for new businesses that start operations. Companies outside Kampala require only $ 150,000 to qualify for reduced investment requirements.

The partnership provides URA with access to church radio stations and Sunday services for educational purposes. Exarch Jeronymos promised to open Orthodox Church platforms to revenue officials during youth and women's conferences. Isaac Aijuka from URA encouraged religious leaders to register their businesses properly and get tax identification numbers for free. The agency collected 14.5 trillion shillings toward its annual goal of 18.5 trillion during recent months. This education strategy helps Uganda increase voluntary tax payments from all sectors of society.
