NDDC Denounces Allegations Over Hijacked Projects in Calabar

The Niger Delta Development Commission has hit back at Cross River State officials who accused the agency of stealing their road projects in Calabar. Board Chairman Chiedu Ebie called the claims dishonest politics and warned state leaders to stop dragging the commission into messy fights. He spoke during a project opening ceremony in Bayelsa State.

Ebie rejected claims that the commission broke rules when awarding road contracts in Calabar. He said all proper steps were followed and documented correctly. The chairman asked how contractors could start work without official approval if no award letters existed.

State agents disrupted the commission's project ceremony in Calabar last week. They claimed the newly built roads belonged to Cross River State instead of the federal agency. The incident sparked a public argument about project ownership.

Ebie stressed that both he and the managing director must sign contracts before work begins. This happens after procurement processes are complete and award letters are issued. He said the commission follows strict procedures for all projects.

The chairman urged politicians to keep their disputes separate from the commission's work. He promised the reformed agency would continue making positive changes across the Niger Delta region despite political interference.
