NDMA warns of severe monsoon floods and GLOF risk across Pakistan

Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority released urgent weather warnings as monsoon systems intensify across the country. The National Emergencies Operation Center coordinates response efforts while strengthening currents threaten multiple regions through July 31. A westerly wave will amplify dangerous conditions throughout affected areas.

Urban flooding threatens Islamabad and major Punjab cities like Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Khushab, and Narowal. Northeastern Punjab's nullahs face sudden swelling that endangers nearby residents. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts expect widespread rainfall, flash flooding, and landslides. Strong winds and thunderstorms may damage infrastructure and power systems.

Glacial Lake Outburst Flood alerts affect Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until August 3. Heavy rainfall combined with glacier melt creates downstream flooding risks in vulnerable valleys. Provincial administrations must prepare emergency response teams and clear drainage systems. Tourists should avoid glacial regions during this period. Citizens can access real-time updates through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application.
