Negligence blamed as fire again destroys Glenview 8 complex

A massive fire destroyed small business operations at the Glenview Area 8 Complex on Sunday morning. Harare firefighters worked to contain the blaze while police officers secured the area from potential looters. The flames consumed furniture workshops, machinery, and raw materials worth thousands of dollars. Business owners reported complete losses of their inventory and equipment. Recovery efforts from previous incidents had just begun before this latest disaster struck.

Officials suspect negligence caused the recurring fire problems at the commercial complex. Harare Province Small to Medium Enterprises chairperson Gilvas Maungira cited preliminary evidence pointing to careless practices among operators. Complex chairman Peter Chibema identified illegal electrical connections as a likely source of the flames. Unregistered vendors reportedly bypass proper safety protocols when establishing their businesses. Police Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that investigations continue into the circumstances.

The facility experienced similar destruction during a major fire event in 2015 that displaced numerous traders.
