Netflix hijacks India’s soul with tourism deal

Netflix partnered with India's Ministry of Tourism to promote the country's destinations through streaming content. The collaboration will integrate travel locations into original storylines while supporting local talent and communities. Secretary V. Vidyavathi emphasized the shared commitment to showcasing India's cultural diversity through this alliance. Netflix has filmed across 100 cities in 23 states, marking the platform's most extensive production footprint.

The streaming service previously featured Indian locations in productions like The Elephant Whisperers and Kaala Paani. This marks Netflix's first tourism partnership in South Asia following similar agreements with France, Indonesia, Korea and other nations. Diljit Dosanjh earned an International Emmy nomination for his performance in Amar Singh Chamkila. The biographical drama chronicles the Punjabi folk singer's rise and 1988 assassination.
