NW Natural Holdings is putting Megan Berge in as its top lawyer. She takes over for MardiLyn Saathoff, who is leaving after a long run. This Portland parent company runs utilities like NW Natural Gas. Berge, currently the deputy, will start as General Counsel and also handle compliance.
Berge moved over from law firm Baker Botts earlier this year. She had been there for almost two decades doing environmental work. Saathoff has been with the company for over seventeen years, leading the legal team since 2015. She will stick around for a few months to help with the transition before retiring fully.
The CEO said Berge is a respected strategic pick, calling the promotion part of their solid succession planning. He also praised Saathoff for guiding the company's major expansion over her tenure. This shift follows other recent legal hires in the energy sector, including moves at nuclear firms Terrestrial Energy and NuScale Power.
