New ZimParks Chief Takes Helm with Conservation Legacy

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has a new leader. Professor Edson Gandiwa was named director-general on Tuesday. He takes over from Dr. Fulton Mangwanya, who recently became head of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).

Prof. Gandiwa thanked everyone for the chance to lead ZimParks. "I am very grateful and humbled to accept this important job," he said. Dr. Mangwanya was a special leader. It won't be easy to fill his shoes, but we will work hard to continue what he started."

Dr. Mangwanya also expressed his thanks. He said ZimParks' work helps the country in many ways. "It was a joy to work with all of you," he told the team. "We don't just protect wildlife. We also help make Zimbabwe a better place for everyone."

The handover event was a big moment for ZimParks. Mr. Edward Samuriwo, who is temporarily in charge of the Environment, Climate and Wildlife department, called it a "milestone." Mrs. Sithembile Ncube, who is temporarily leading the ZimParks board, said they fully support Prof. Gandiwa. "We are all ready to stand behind you," she told him.

Prof. Gandiwa wants to continue protecting wildlife and helping Zimbabwe's development sustainably. He has a PhD and has written many research papers. His previous job was at a university, teaching about wildlife and conservation. People will be watching to see how he balances saving animals with the needs of humans in a country known for its amazing wildlife.

The future looks bright for ZimParks under Prof. Gandiwa's leadership. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. With the support of his team, he is well-positioned to continue the important work of wildlife conservation in Zimbabwe.
