The Ministry of Electronics and IT announced Wednesday that its new NIELIT Digital University platform will launch Thursday with programs focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data science. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will inaugurate the platform designed to provide accessible digital education through flexible learning modes and virtual labs in emerging technologies such as semiconductors and related fields.
The minister will remotely open five additional NIELIT centers in Muzaffarpur, Balasore, Tirupati, Daman and Lunglei during an event expected to draw more than 1,500 participants from across India. The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology operates through 56 centers, over 750 accredited institutes and 9,000 facilitation centers that have trained approximately 4.36 million candidates in emerging technologies.
Government funding for NIELIT exceeded 493 crore rupees since 2020-21, with the largest allocation of about 153 crore rupees coming in 2024-25. The event will feature industry partnership agreements to strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and businesses.
