Nigeria's influencer scene gets real talk on brand deals

The whole influencer versus brand paycheck drama just got a live therapy session. Phenom Communications pulled major players into one room at the Radisson Blu Anchorage in Victoria Island for a raw talk called The Partnership Blueprint. This private meetup aimed to tackle the messy relationship between companies and content creators.

Obi Asika, leading the National Council for Arts and Culture, kicked things off by discussing the massive clout of Nigeria's creative scene. He pushed for better systems to protect everyone's interests. Uche Pedro, the brains behind BellaNaija, then chimed in on media equality and the duty platforms have.

Ariyiike Owolagba guided a creator panel featuring Ify Mogekwu, Tania Omotayo, Layi Wasabi, and Gbemi Giwa. They aired grievances about pay, unclear brand demands, and the grind of influencer work. From the corporate side, a group including Lola Mimi Marcus, Omotunde Ibironke, and Olamonisa Nduka explained internal brand pressures like measuring results and protecting reputation.

Agency voices like Cyril Onih and Rereloluwa Thomas added their take on mediating these tense deals. Legal experts Nosa Garrick and Onyinye Arthur-Okonkwo stressed the non-negotiable need for clear contracts and ethics. Attendees even voted on sticky issues like whether invites should always mean payment.

Notable faces like Bambam Olawunmi-Adenibuyan and Denola Grey were in the crowd. Teresa Aligbe, Phenom Communications CEO, called the meeting a working forum focused on building a fair industry blueprint. The gathering aimed to set new norms for brand and creator collaboration moving forward.
