Nine-year-old Warisa Haider becomes Bangladesh's youngest Woman Candidate Master

A nine-year-old chess player just made Bangladesh proud with a record-breaking achievement. Warisa Haider earned the title of Woman Candidate Master and became the youngest person from her country to reach this level. The Bangladesh Chess Federation received her official certificate from FIDE on Monday. Chess officials around the world recognize FIDE as the sport's main governing body. The young girl's accomplishment puts her name in the history books.

Warisa earned her special status after finishing third at the Western Asia Youth Chess Championship last year. The tournament took place in Sri Lanka and featured talented young players from across the region. Her strong performance during the competition qualified her for the prestigious title. The girl competed against other skilled chess players in the Under-8 Girls category. She proved that age means nothing when talent and hard work come together.

Chess masters usually need a rating of 2000 points to earn the Woman Candidate Master title. Warisa only needed to reach 1800 points because she finished among the top three players at a major Asian tournament. She finally hit that magic number during July of this year. The lower rating requirement rewards players who perform well at important international competitions. Her achievement shows that young Bangladeshi chess players can compete with the best talent from around the world.
