Nirmala Sitharaman lauds simpler Income Tax Bill, urges swift grievance resolution

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman praised the Income Tax Bill 2025 for adopting clearer language that taxpayers can easily comprehend. The simplified approach reduces confusion and strengthens compliance efforts across the nation. She emphasized how these changes make tax provisions more accessible to ordinary citizens.

The minister directed tax officials to resolve pending appeals faster and clear litigation backlogs promptly. Departments must withdraw appeals below new monetary limits within three months of the announcement. Officials should process refunds quickly and address taxpayer complaints proactively.

Sitharaman requested performance evaluations by region to identify operational weaknesses and improve service delivery. She commended the department for completing the new bill draft on schedule. The minister stressed the need for continued technological improvements to maintain efficient taxpayer services.
