Nkayi South MP Jabulani Hadebe says cement supplies have dried up in his district because truckers are refusing to drive the busted-up Nkayi Road, which has gotten even worse with the rainy season hitting. The rehabilitation project on a 20-kilometer stretch past the Ngwigwisi River has been sitting untouched for five months since Treasury still hasn't paid the contractor for work already done.
Hadebe warned that the compacted surface will get washed away if they don't lay tar soon, and the whole section needs around $10 million, but funding timelines remain unclear. The cement shortage has lasted three weeks, and construction projects across the district are basically grinding to a halt while the road continues falling apart.
