Nkomo Trust keeps unity and education legacy alive with new pledges

A political legacy trust keeps pushing its founding figure's values. The John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust reiterated its dedication to preserving the late former Vice President's principles of unity and service. The group honored Nkomo as a nationalist whose life influenced the country's moral foundation, emphasizing his humility and commitment to national cohesion.

Born in Tsholotsho District within Matabeleland North Province, Nkomo is remembered for his liberation struggle and advocacy for education. His vision materialized through Landa J Nkomo High School in his home district. The trust also noted his passion for sports, citing his support for Highlanders Football Club and the Zimbabwe Football Association.

The organization expressed gratitude for support from President Emmerson Mnangagwa and businessman Wicknell Chivayo. Donations from Chivayo included a bus for the high school, financial contributions, and a large sum directed to Highlanders Football Club. These resources aid programs sustaining Nkomo's legacy.

Trust initiatives include constructing the high school and a clinic in Tsholotsho. Ongoing projects support educational and health infrastructure in various communities, aiming to reflect Nkomo's people-centered development approach. His advocacy extended to human rights, championing inclusion for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
