NRM runner-up Faridah Nambi wants the Electoral Commission to count votes again after losing the Kawempe North MP special election. According to the final numbers in the Uganda Gazette, she placed second among ten candidates with 9,058 votes.
The winner, opposition party NUP's Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi, received 17,939 votes. Nambi first congratulated her opponent but changed her mind. She hired lawyers at Atwijukire Dennis Advocates, who filed petition MC No. 22/2025 requesting officials recheck all ballots.
Earlier, Nambi blamed security forces for her loss. She claimed their harassment of opposition supporters, journalists, and Nalukoola made people vote for him out of sympathy. She also said heavy police presence scared away many voters, leading to poor turnout at polling stations.
Many political experts and NRM party members agree with Nambi. They point fingers at security forces as the main reason she failed to win the election despite running a strong campaign as the ruling party candidate.
