Nyali Bridge closed as officials demolish unstable tower

If you live near Nyali Bridge, plan to cross early next Wednesday. The bridge shuts down at 7:30 am on April 9, 2025. City workers need four hours to knock down a falling tower by Coast General. Anyone who must reach the island should travel before 7:00 am. The blocked area stretches 1.2 kilometers from the bad building.

Officials marked off Marikiti Market, all of Jomo Kenyatta Avenue to Sabasaba, and up Ronald Ngala to the bridge. All schools close that day in these areas. Car owners can park for free at Mama Ngina or RG Ngala Grounds. This helps keep your car glass safe from flying bits during a big crash. The county asks everyone to help by staying away.

Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said they must tear down this building for public safety. Many groups checked the tower first. These included Land Department staff, National Building checkers, Security teams, Construction experts, Public Works people, and KDF members. All agreed the building might fall any minute without help.

The tower stands ready to crash because someone dug an illegal borehole into its base. This damaged the support system below ground. The main floor columns sank about three meters. Every expert said the same thing - this structure cannot stay up much longer. It puts lives at risk every passing day.

The city plans a careful takedown instead of letting nature decide when it falls, which prevents a bigger mess later. Experts will bring the tower down in a planned way. The free parking helps keep cars safe. Leaders thank everyone for working together. Your help makes a big difference when the city faces problems like these dangerous buildings.
