Nyamande gifted car, phone to end Chirumanzu chief dispute

Abrahim Marufu Nyamande accepted the leadership role of Chirumanzu during Friday ceremonies that ended years of legal battles. The 65-year-old leader becomes the 18th chief of the Shumba Mhaze clan after Gerald Mudzengi passed away in 2019. Community members expressed excitement about having permanent leadership to guide local development projects. The village operates a cooking oil refinery plant and residents hope their new chief will promote sunflower cultivation. Legal disputes had delayed the installation process for several years.

National Chiefs Council President Mtshane Khumalo criticized families who bring succession disputes to courts rather than resolving them through traditional channels. Government officials outlined the chief's responsibilities during the installation ceremony. Minister Daniel Garwe emphasized the leader's role in community development and cultural preservation. Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube highlighted duties related to food security programs and government project implementation. The new chief received a vehicle, smartphone, and traditional regalia as part of his official appointment.
