Nyamira County Assembly members have ousted Governor Amos Nyaribo through a successful impeachment vote that saw 23 legislators support his removal without opposition. Speaker Thaddeus Nyabaro confirmed the decision will advance to the Senate for constitutional proceedings.
Bonyamatuta Ward representative Julius Kimwomi Matwere brought charges against Nyaribo for backing an unauthorized parallel assembly faction known as Bunge Mashinani under former Speaker Enock Okero. Accusations centered on the governor approving irregular committee appointments in Keroka and establishing an illegal Public Service Board panel through the breakaway group that conducted sessions outside official chambers.
Nyaribo had previously survived two impeachment attempts tied to allegations of mismanagement and nepotism.
