Nyeko Slams Harassment by Security Forces

Derrick Nyeko from Makindye East slammed security forces for bullying him after the government made fresh claims against him. The Internal Affairs State Minister, General David Muhoozi, told lawmakers that police found military stuff that belonged to Nyeko. Muhoozi talked about this during a meeting about the rough treatment of people at the Kawempe North election. Armed men with covered faces from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce beat up National Unity Platform candidate Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola and his fans.

Police locked up 24 folks, including Nyeko and another lawmaker named Muwada Nkunyingi. A court sent these people to jail first, but both lawmakers walked free later. Muhoozi explained to the other lawmakers that these arrested people broke different laws, like using army gear when they should not. According to Muhoozi, police found "one pair of rank badges for lieutenant general and major general that belong to Nyeko." They also found red clothes with NUP badges, a red hat, and a shield.

Muhoozi said they plan to take these cases to court and let judges decide what happens next. He added they might team up with army folks and other security teams to publish lists of their official clothes. Nyeko fired back hard against these claims about the rank badges. He said he felt super angry after reading what the Minister wrote. Nyeko explained that rough men beat him and forced him out of his car, then kept the car, making up stories about what they found inside it.

Nyeko talked about an earlier problem when armed people showed up at his house on May 13, 2024. He said they tried to plant bullets and guns to make him look bad. His brave wife recorded everything with cameras, showing everyone what really happened. Nyeko heard the army boss ordered these actions against him because Nyeko asked for this boss to appear before a defense team. Despite all this trouble, Nyeko promised to keep doing his job as an elected lawmaker who swore to protect Uganda's constitution.
