Orchestral Tools unleashes Korven terror

Orchestral Tools released Korven on Thursday, a sample library built from composer Mark Korven's work across horror films. The collection holds 622 instruments and patches that draw from acoustic sources rather than synthetic generation. Revolution Recording in Toronto captured the sounds that appear in The VVitch, The Lighthouse and The Black Phone.

The library contains recordings from the Apprehension Engine, an instrument that Korven developed in collaboration with luthier Tony Duggan-Smith. String sections, wind quintets, hurdy-gurdy, waterphone and an eight-foot Symphonae instrument fill out the collection. Processed patches ship with five microphone positions plus premixed versions.

Orchestral Tools priced Korven at 129 euros through November 11, before the standard rate of 199 euros takes effect. The SINEplayer software runs the library at no charge. Risers, pulses and plucked articulations complement the sustained textures across 49 layered instruments and 83 processed patches.
