Oshakati Splashing N$350M on Youth Jobs and Roads

Oshakati mayor Leonard Hango shared the town's N$350 million budget plans on Friday. The money will help young people find jobs and improve local services. The town hired 112 young workers on short-term contracts to fight unemployment. Hango said the council wants to help young people gain work experience. These temporary jobs cost the town N$4.4 million this year.

The town accepted 20 students from Valombola Training Centre to learn plumbing skills. These trainees will spend one year learning how to fix pipes and water systems. The council budgeted N$1 million each year for this training program. Extra temporary workers earn N$80,000 when the town needs extra help. Officials plan to hire more people as needed.

Oshakati plans to install prepaid water meters around the community. The first phase of this water project started with meters in selected neighborhoods. This pilot program cost N$726,570 to test the new system. The town also set aside N$150,000 to build shared bathrooms in informal settlements. Road improvements will happen across the northern town as part of the infrastructure upgrades.
