Overtime Thriller as Lokomotiv Outlasts Avangard

Lokomotiv came out on top against Avangard with a 3-2 overtime win in the final game of their playoff series. The match happened in Yaroslavl, where fans saw their team succeed in the seventh contest. Alexander Radulov and Egor Surin scored during regular play for the home squad. Avangard fought back with goals from Evgeny Kulik and Konstantin Okulov to force extra time. Alexander Polunin became the hero when he scored the winning goal in overtime for Lokomotiv.

The victory gives Lokomotiv four wins against three losses in their best-of-seven playoff battle. Coach Igor Nikitin led his team through a tough series that came down to the last possible game. Lokomotiv scored once in each of the first two periods before Avangard tied it up in the third. Neither team found the net during the first overtime period. The deadlock broke when Polunin put the puck past the Avangard goalie.

Lokomotiv moves forward to face Salavat Yulaev from Ufa in the next round. The semifinal games start on April 27 with home ice advantage for Lokomotiv. Hockey fans expect another close series between these skilled teams. The winner advances to compete for the Gagarin Cup championship.
