PAP Delegation to Lobby Against Illegal Sanctions on Zimbabwe

The Pan-African Parliament wants to help Zimbabwe. It plans to send a group to talk to countries that have put sanctions on Zimbabwe. The parliament believes these sanctions are unfair and hurt the country.

Chief Fortune Charumbira leads the parliament. He met with Zimbabwe's foreign minister, Amon Murwira, to discuss the issue. Chief Charumbira said the group will represent all parts of Africa. They will try to convince the countries to remove the sanctions.

Minister Murwira said Zimbabwe's constitution requires the country to support the Pan-African Parliament. He said the sanctions go against international law and Zimbabwe's rights.

Zimbabwe wants to promote peace and prosperity in Africa. President Mnangagwa believes in hard work and dignity for all people. The country aims to have excellent relations with the rest of the continent.

Western countries sanctioned Zimbabwe around the year 2000. They did this because Zimbabwe took back land that had been unfairly taken during colonial times. The sanctions were meant to punish Zimbabwe for this action.

The Pan-African Parliament hopes to persuade these countries to change their minds by talking directly to them. It believes ending the sanctions will benefit everyone, including the countries that imposed them.

Zimbabwe appreciates the parliament's efforts. It sees this as an important step toward resolving the conflict peacefully. The country remains committed to its African identity and to working with its neighbors for the good of all.
