Party clears the way for Tagwirei takeover

The ruling party switched direction just days after President Mnangagwa kicked out the Zimbabwe Army commander. They fast-tracked controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei toward the presidency. This sharp change happened very quickly, surprising many political observers who watched the events unfold last week.

War veteran Blessed Geza spoke during his recent national address about the coming leadership change. Geza, praised by ZANU PF for military skills and intelligence work, stated Mnangagwa would step aside for Tagwirei soon. State media revealed this information on March 31st, the same day Geza led public demonstrations against the current leadership.

Zanu PF leaders in Harare voted to push Tagwirei into the party's powerful Central Committee. This major step places him firmly within the top decision-making circles. Godwills Masimirembwa, who runs Zanu PF in Harare, announced that everyone agreed with this plan. He promised to send their recommendation to party Secretary-General Dr. Obert Mpofu right away.

Masimirembwa called Tagwirei a visionary business leader who greatly benefits Harare Province. Youth leader Emmanuel Mahachi added praise for how Tagwirei brings money to the party and shows up whenever needed. The timing tells a clear story—Mnangagwa removed General Sibanda first, then elevated his financial backer Tagwirei. This suggests that Mnangagwa wants to control who takes power next by strengthening his inner circle.
