Pastor Dumi faces court over unpaid $80K loan from friend

A Zimbabwe church leader faces legal action after failing to repay an $80,000 loan from a friend. Dumisani Mawoyo serves as pastor at Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa and Forward In Ministries in America. Benson Maeka loaned the money to Mawoyo on January 6, 2024, under a written agreement with no interest charges. The pastor missed his repayment deadline and began avoiding contact with his friend. Maeka filed court papers after multiple failed attempts to collect the debt.

The legal dispute drew mixed reactions from social media users across Zimbabwe. Some people criticized NewsHawks for publishing details about the pastor's private financial problems. Others shared allegations about Mawoyo's previous legal troubles in the United States. Several commenters claimed the pastor faces tax fraud charges from American authorities. One user stated Mawoyo returned to Zimbabwe two years ago to avoid Internal Revenue Service investigations.

Maeka sent his final payment demand on November 26, 2024, before taking legal action. The written loan agreement provided clear terms for repayment between the two men. Court documents show Mawoyo stopped responding to his friend's repeated requests for payment. The case highlights financial disputes between religious leaders and their personal contacts. Legal experts expect the court to review the signed agreement and determine appropriate remedies for the unpaid debt.
