Pellegrini sinks Lazio at Stadio Olimpico for Roma

Lorenzo Pellegrini netted the decisive strike as Roma defeated Lazio 1-0 in Sunday's derby at Stadio Olimpico. The midfielder marked his first seasonal appearance by converting the match winner in the 38th minute. Gian Piero Gasperini had stripped Pellegrini of the captaincy during summer and placed him on the transfer market. The new Roma manager demonstrated faith in the 29-year-old by selecting him for this critical fixture. Pellegrini responded with his fourth goal in Rome derby encounters.

Lazio endured a difficult afternoon that saw Reda Belahyane receive a straight red card dismissal. Matteo Guendouzi compounded their problems by earning a post-match sending off for arguing with match officials. The defeat leaves Lazio in 13th position with three points from four league games. Roma climbed to fourth place with nine points and moved within one point of leaders Juventus. Devyne Rensch created the winning goal by dispossessing Nuno Tavares before Matias Soule provided the assist for Pellegrini's clinical finish.
