PM warns - save food, rains running late

Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba told regional and district commissioners to make sure Tanzanians stop wasting food stocks because the rains are showing up late this season. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority warned that Dodoma, Katavi, Kigoma, Singida, Tabora, Iringa, Mbeya, Mtwara, Njombe, Songwe, Rukwa, Ruvuma, and southern Morogoro should expect below-average rainfall with extended dry periods that could tank crop yields.

Nchemba pushed farmers to grab drought-resistant seeds and fertilizers that match the forecast conditions instead of gambling on normal planting strategies. He wants agricultural extension officers to actually visit farms and educate people rather than camping in their offices, while livestock keepers need solid water and feed plans to avoid the mass animal deaths that happened during previous shortages.

The government claims there is no food crisis threat yet, but conservation matters because the rainfall distribution could mess up harvests across multiple regions.
