Police chief calls for discipline and professionalism in the force

The Zimbabwe Republic Police leadership urged newly graduated officers to uphold strict ethical conduct and professional behavior to build public confidence and attract future recruits. Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba addressed 622 cadets at the Police Staff College ceremony in Harare, stressing that national development goals depend on a trustworthy, technologically adept police force. He warned against corruption and emphasized that officers must protect the dignity of their uniform through daily choices.

Mutamba highlighted evolving crime threats like cyber-fraud and digital theft, stating adaptation is essential for survival. The graduates completed specialized programs ranging from cybersecurity management to community policing. College Principal Edward Tshuma noted international partnerships with police academies across 63 nations. University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor Paul Mapfumo praised the decades-long collaboration between institutions and challenged the college to develop local solutions for transnational crimes like human trafficking. Mutamba reminded officers that their role extends beyond enforcement to becoming community bridge-builders who restore citizen trust.
