Police Say Gachagua Is Safe and Urge Him to Coordinate

Police assured everyone they remain safe despite claims from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua about security threats. Gachagua wrote to the Inspector General, saying his life faces danger through multiple incidents. He claimed unknown people were trailing family members with unmarked cars. Law enforcement advised him to work with officers at all levels for extra protection. They asked him to share his travel plans ahead of time for better security coordination.

The National Police Service emphasized its duty under Article 244 of the Constitution to respect human rights. It stated that it serves all people without political favoritism. Officials said security across the country stays stable with measures already preventing crimes. They promised to handle all security needs when requested according to law. The service described itself as nonpolitical, with intelligence-based systems to address threats.

Gachagua described several specific incidents, including a December disruption at his Nyandarua County meeting. He alleged that tear gas scattered his supporters, creating conditions for assassination. The former deputy also mentioned an attack against his wife Dorcas during a January prayer rally in Nyeri town. Police maintain they can respond effectively to legitimate security concerns from any citizen, including former officials.
