Poll shows St Petersburg and Moscow escape cash crunch as Russians struggle to get by

VTsIOM conducted research during July that examined financial hardships across Russia. Survey results reveal that approximately half the population struggles with monetary concerns. Basic necessities remain affordable for just 49 percent of respondents, while comfortable living proves achievable for merely 18 percent.

Financial uncertainty affects most citizens, who oscillate between feeling secure and experiencing shortfalls. Acute monetary shortages plague 15 percent of the population nationwide. Women face greater economic challenges than men, with 53 percent reporting insufficient funds compared to 46 percent of male respondents.

Moscow and St. Petersburg residents demonstrate superior financial stability compared to other regions. Employed individuals in these major cities show that 69 percent successfully manage expenses until their next salary arrives. Just 10 percent of capital dwellers report monetary deficiencies, while residents of smaller cities and rural areas struggle at rates between 52 and 58 percent.
