Port bosses swear in staff reps, promise better vibes

Port authority staff unions just got new bosses after some internal votes. The Gambia Ports Authority and Alport Banjul Limited swore in freshly elected association executives, closing a transition period. A ceremony in Banjul gathered senior management from both entities alongside ferry service reps, security agencies, and shipping company staff.

Electoral commission chair Mam Peteh Dampha called the process free and transparent. He urged incoming leaders to handle association documents and review outdated constitutions. Deputy Director Landing B. Sanyang congratulated the winners on behalf of GPA management, reminding them that employees would watch their performance closely.

He stated accountability remains critical for improved delivery over past administrations. Alport's Human Resource Manager, Mehmet Tayyib Alan, echoed support for staff welfare collaboration. He commended the election conduct and pushed for constructive engagement on shared goals.

After taking an oath administered by the legal deputy, Almameh Manneh became GPA Staff Association President. He called the mandate a responsibility requiring integrity and professional results. Manneh argued associations should act as development partners, not adversaries, to boost governance.

Adama Jatta, sworn in as Alport's association president, highlighted worker welfare for maintaining industrial peace. She acknowledged investments under the concession but pressed for better service conditions, job security, and safety alongside profits. Jatta called on the regulating GPA to ensure all staff commitments are honored.

Both leaders promised constructive dialogue and unity with other port associations. They committed to responsibly defending staff interests as the event concluded with calls for cooperative and accountable representation.
