Praggnanandhaa flexes chess swag at Sao Paulo finals

Indian Grand Master R Praggnanandhaa participated in an exhibition match before the Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals commenced Sunday at the World Trade Center in Sao Paulo. The chess prodigy secured his tournament berth after placing second at the 2025 Sinquefield Cup. He expressed enthusiasm about the alternative simultaneous exhibition format where all competitors contributed moves.

Praggnanandhaa faces French player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the semifinals while Fabiano Caruana battles Levon Aronian. Each semifinal consists of two classical games, two rapid contests and four blitz matches totaling 28 possible points. World Champion Garry Kasparov performed the ceremonial opening move during the tournament ceremony alongside Superbet Brazil CEO Alexandre Fonseca.
