Prison officers hit the books as ZPCS pushes for smart reforms

The prison service is making a big play on in-house training, putting hundreds of officers through courses. Over seven hundred ZPCS members started internal development programs at the Ntabazinduna Training School. Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu stated that this investment aims to build competent leaders for institutional change.

He emphasized training as central to the service's overhaul plan, focusing on human capital. The group includes more male than female officers undertaking various skill programs. These cover supervisory management, security intelligence, and tactical correctional response.

Chihobvu noted a shift towards self-reliance, as the service now runs these programs internally instead of relying on external slots. He praised the training school commandant for their role in facilitating the courses. Participation from three Eswatini correctional officers highlights regional cooperation for shared standards.

The commissioner linked a skilled workforce to effective rehabilitation and public safety. He said acquired competencies are vital for implementing systems like parole ethically. Management remains committed to this professional development push for operational effectiveness.
