Prisons discover green fingers with tobacco pilot

That prison tobacco crop is actually looking pretty solid. Zimbabwe's prison service reported strong progress in agricultural projects, with a successful tobacco pilot at the Khami Complex. Commissioner-General Cyril Chihobvu praised officers in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province for their collective effort during an inspection tour. He expressed clear satisfaction with the visible results of the teamwork on display.

Chihobvu highlighted the project's potential for economic empowerment and self-sustenance within the correctional service. He stressed the importance of seeing tangible financial returns from the venture after the season. The commissioner also commended the province for maintaining high standards in maize production alongside the tobacco.

He noted the integrated agricultural approach was yielding positive outcomes. Officials were urged to sustain momentum and consider investing in modern infrastructure, like greenhouses, for future initiatives. The prison service has intensified farming activities across its institutions to enhance food security and skills development. This effort aligns with broader government goals for rehabilitation and income generation.
