Privacy nightmare at Tea app grows with 1 million chats leaked

The tea dating application suffered severe security failures that compromised user privacy across two separate incidents. The platform designed for women to share dating experiences attracted significant attention after launching in 2023. Hackers accessed approximately 72,000 personal images through vulnerable legacy storage systems on July 25th, 2025.

A subsequent investigation revealed that attackers obtained access to 1.1 million private conversations between female users. 404 Media documented the second security violation after an independent researcher discovered the leaked communications. Personal discussions about sensitive topics like infidelity and abortion became accessible to unauthorized parties.

Tea management acknowledged the message breach but claimed both incidents represented one coordinated attack rather than separate violations. The company disabled affected systems as a precautionary measure while investigating the scope of compromised data. Technology publications criticized the application for inadequate data protection measures that endangered the very demographic it promised to protect.
